The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) invites applications for its 2023 Research Awards. This year, IDRC will offer awards in seven development areas or themes: Climate-Resilient Food Systems, Democratic and Inclusive Governance, Education and Science, Ethics in Development Research, Global Health, Policy and Evaluation, and Sustainable Inclusive Economies. The Global Health award will be based in Nairobi, while all other awards will be based in Ottawa.
Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for the IDRC Research Awards, applicants must:
- Apply for only one research award recipient opportunity
- Focus their proposed research on one or more developing countries on the OECD DAC list of ODA recipients
- Have a field research component that does not exceed three months
- Not propose research in countries with Government of Canada travel security advisories of “Avoid all travel”
- Meet the specific eligibility criteria for their selected theme
- Submit a completed research proposal, academic information and professional qualifications form, and proof of valid student permit or full-time work permit (valid until 30 April 2024) or Kenyan citizenship (for the award in Nairobi) as part of the application process
- If selected and holding a valid student permit, have a conditional offer that is contingent on obtaining a work permit valid for full-time work (37.5 hours) from 1 May 2023 to 30 April 2024
Research Proposal Evaluation Criteria The research proposal will be evaluated based on:
- Relevance to IDRC’s mission and mandate
- Relevance to the selected development outcome area
- Clarity and quality of the proposal
- Appropriate address of ethical considerations and gender dimension in the proposed research
- Applicant’s capacity to conduct the proposed program of research, including academic qualifications, local language abilities, and related experience
- Applicant’s capacity to conduct the program of work, including related employment experience.
