University Sports Scholarship is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Eligibility • High-Performance Athlete Criteria:
To be eligible for this scholarship, students must have reached, or have the potential to reach, a very high level of performance in sports, competing at the international, national, inter-provincial, or inter-county level.
Leaving Certificate Applicants:
Must meet the standard matriculation/admission requirements and any special course requirements. • May receive up to 60 CAO points to help make up for any point deficit for admission to a preferred Level 8 degree. • Sport scholarship applicants must score at least 300 points in their best six Leaving Certificate subjects.
QQI Applicants:
Must achieve a full award (8 modules) with 5 distinctions in a linked award. Maths requirement for specific degrees can be fulfilled by having the grade in the Leaving Certificate, GC(S)E, or other school leaving exams, or by attaining a distinction in a maths or statistics module in the QQI award.
Postgraduate Applications:
Will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Benefits Financial Bursary:
This scholarship will provide financial assistance to students to cover sports and university-related expenses, such as sporting equipment and travel costs. The scholarship’s aim is to allow students to focus on sports without the need for part-time work.
Priority Campus Accommodation:
Scholars will be given priority for on-campus housing in their first year (accommodation allocation is at the discretion of Development Officers).
Access to Expert Support:
Scholars will have access to top-level coaching, fitness training, sports psychology workshops, health and nutrition advice, and performance analysis. They will also receive ongoing academic support, goal setting, performance planning, and career advice.
Health and Fitness Support:
Scholars will undergo individual functional health screenings and will receive access to fitness, strength, and conditioning programs. They will also have access to top-level coaches and playing facilities, a free gym membership, and cardiovascular fitness suite and free weights gym.
Medical and Physiotherapy Support:
Scholars will receive medical and physiotherapy support, including fitness testing and analysis.
